How do I measure stairs for handrails?

The minimum length of a residential handrail is determined by measuring from the nosing of the bottom step to the nosing of the landing.

For optimal installation that complies with ADA standards or for any commercial application, measure from a point on the floor one tread depth ahead of the bottom step. At the upper landing, ensure the handrail extends horizontally for at least one foot.

Can I increase the space between the handrail and the wall?

The standard spacing between the Premier Rails handrail and the wall is 1-1/2″. However, you may wish to increase this space in certain cases, such as:

  • When local codes require a 2″ spacing
  • If the wall surface is very rough
  • If the wall is uneven

To adjust the spacing, spacers are available for both types of Premier Rails L-brackets:

  • Pivoting Bracket: Use one or more Wall Adapters between the bracket and the wall.
  • Sprocketlock Bracket: Use one or more 1/2″ Spacers between the bracket and the wall.

Each spacer increases the wall spacing by 1/2″ and can be stacked to achieve greater spacing in 1/2″ increments. A maximum of three spacers (totaling 1-1/2″ or 3″ of spacing) is recommended.
If the wall has a 'joggle' greater than 2″, we suggest creating an S-bend in the handrail rather than spacing out the brackets. For further details, please contact us.

Can I mount Premier Rails Handrails on glass?

Yes

What is the correct height for handrails?

Most standards recommend an elevation of 34-38 inches between the nosing line of the steps (or the floor) and the top surface of the handrail.

What is the maximum length of a single handrail ?

The maximum length for an individual handrail purchase is 20 feet.”
